3 Reasons you should get started on your kitchen project NOW

ARE YOU PLANNING A NEW KITCHEN FOR LATE THIS YEAR AND THINK THERE’S PLENTY OF TIME? THERE’S GOOD REASON TO GET THE BALL ROLLING NOW.

There are many reasons why it can be tempting to delay this big purchase, but, more than ever before, it's a better decision to get the ball started sooner rather than later.

Here's why:

1. Lead times are getting longer.

As lives return to 'normal' post-pandemic, across the world furniture and appliance manufacturers are inundated with orders. This, coupled with a global shortage of micro-chips (particularly on appliances) means lead times are have been extending.

Some manufacturers' lead times have more than doubled. For example, pre-pandemic we would be making furniture on around a six week lead time, today it’s ten to twelve weeks. It’s therefore realistic to plan for, in an ideal world, around three to four months for the design, delivery and installation of a kitchen. This will allow enough time to digest and tweak the design where you need.

It's also worth bearing in mind that installers are very busy, with many booked until Christmas already! So, if you want a kitchen for late this year or anytime before next spring, NOW is the perfect time to start planning. If your kitchen is part of a bigger house renovation, we’d recommend starting the conversation with us at the same time you start talking to a potential builder.

2.Kitchen prices are pushing up.

Your kitchen is an investment. Like any investment, it's worth making when the time is right. On that theme, you'll probably not be surprised to hear that, like energy bills, petrol prices and secondhand cars, the cost of kitchen furniture and appliances is rising.

This trend is likely to continue as the cost of raw materials continues to rise and the global demand for updated home furniture remains high.

Our recommendation is to buy as soon as you can so that you lock in today’s prices. It doesn’t matter if your project is many months off as we are happy to store goods in our warehouse. In fact, we have hundreds of appliances already in storage for our customers who bought at today’s price ready to install later this year.

3.Building projects renovations are never as quick as you think!

Disclaimer – this one isn't Covid or Inflation related – it's something that happens all the time. Renovating your home is a lot like buying a house; it always takes longer than you think.

The timeline of a renovation is packed with contingencies, meaning any number of things can happen that will cause your project to go over schedule. Your builder, for example, may not know precisely what they're dealing with until they tear down your walls or rip up the flooring. You'll probably change your mind on something at some point down the line. There may be unforeseen problems with delivery schedules or, even more likely, availability issues with builders, electricians, plumbers or plasterers.

If you are considering a kitchen renovation and want it finished by late 2022/early 2023, now is the time to get started. Prices are rising and lead times are getting longer, and renovations often take much longer than expected. So, act now before it's too late and you're left disappointed or out of pocket…. and remember, a truly great kitchen is worth the wait!
